Today marks the release of Axel Jansson’s incredible new music video to the recently released song “Wanna Know You”. This visual is definitely one that will hit your heart as you watch it from beginning to end. We are honoured to present it to you as an exclusive premiere. The song was released on 5 April 2019, and followed up his previous single “Everything I Crave”.
Axel Jansson is a London-based Swedish singer-songwriter. He first hit the music scene in 2016 with the release of his debut single “Shine” which gained critical acclaim as well as his second single “Two Of A Kind”. Both songs are his most-streamed tracks on Spotify, to date, having gained over 5,000 streams combined. He has continued on with his career, releasing a few more singles in the past couple of years and performing at a variety of festivals and gig venues. This year, he is set to release his debut album, titled Weight of the World, which is expected to be released in September.
According to Spotify, “Wanna Know You” has been written by Axel Jansson, Dee Hellier, and James D Bell, with James D Bell also acting as the producer. Talking about the song, Axel Jansson said: “’Wanna Know You’ is about the need for reconnection, the feelings and emotional ties that still affect us long after family or relationship bonds have been broken.”
The video has a narrative and a performance piece throughout. We start off with the storyline where we see a teenage boy trying to work out directions from a piece of paper to a house. When he arrives, he is welcomed in by a middle-aged man who we later find out is his estranged father. It’s clear that the father wants to make amends and wants to get to know his son, but small things – such as taking a cigarette out of the box – reminds the son of his childhood and seeing his dad drinking and smoking whilst arguing with the his mother, in a flashback scene.
After an argument with his father, the young male adult storms off. The father turns to alcohol, but decides against it and when his son returns he pours the vodka down the sink after having a flashback to the time when his son and partner walked out on him. They start to patch up their relationship as the video comes to an end, by watching happy home videos of when the son was young.
As for the performance side of things, Axel Jansson performs the song in the corridor of the house, adding even more of a home and relaxing vibe to the visual. He has this effortless chilled-out energy that holds a lot of emotion, displaying that this song means a lot to him, just like his voice portrays in the song.
