Cardi B has been controversial since the very beginning of her rise to fame. Although she may be in her prime, her past is coming to haunt her — and Cardi is sick of it.

Late last month a video of the rapper confessing to drugging and robbing men while she worked as a stripper resurfaced prompting social media to create the hashtag #survivingcardib. While most people agreed that what she did was terrible and would be damaging to her career if she were male, there were a few who came to her defense.

The mother of one posted what seemed to be an explanation rather than an apology that read, in part: “I never glorified the things I brought up in that live[.] I never even put those things in my music because I’m not proud of it and feel a responsibility not to glorify it. The men I spoke about in my live were men that I dated that I was [involved] with men that were conscious willing and aware. I have a past that I can’t change we all do.”

For these past two years I been watching what I say and I haven’t been myself.I been feeling trap and sad cause it’s not ME but everybody tell me to be it for me to be this “rolemodel”and guess what ? People still spit my past right in my face so for now imma be my old self again https://t.co/yyznDymIYp

This morning, Cardi tweeted that she’s ‘just nasty like that.’ To which a follower responded with: “I love you ALOT but I don’t agree with the messages you’ve been sending us young girls. So many of us look at you as a role model and that should send a very loud message.”

The 26-year-old retweeted the message with her own response that stated: “For these past two years I been watching what I say and I haven’t been myself.I been feeling trap and sad cause it’s not ME but everybody tell me to be it for me to be this ‘rolemodel’ and guess what ? People still spit my past right in my face so for now imma be my old self again.”

It’s unknown what Cardi meant by saying she was going back to her old ways because most of her fans brag about her being the artist that has always stayed true to herself. What do you think the rapper means?
